We focuse on research in safety and advanced applications for unmanned aircraft. Our lab combines theoretical work with actual flights across a range of areas. Safety for unmanned aircraft means figuring out how to have more aircrafts in the airspace alongside manned aviation without increasing the risk to other airspace users and people on the ground. Advanced operations push the limits for what is currently possible with unmanned aircraft. Examples are operations very close to spinning wind turbines and flying with slung loads close to the ground. Drone Research Lab operates two larger and a variety of smaller aircrafts in a series of research projects and contributes to the European regulation for unmanned aviation and a global effort to unify rules for unmanned aircraft.
